Haslam Dressmaking Books

What is the Haslam System of Dresscutting?

This is a unique pattern-making system consisting of a set of foundation drafting instructions, a special chart/ tool with curves built in, and additional quarterly supplements with different garment styles.

To use the system, you must purchase the Haslam Foundation Instructions and Chart first. You then follow the included instructions to draft up a basic sloper pattern to your specific measurements. A sloper is a wonderful tool for a dressmaker; it is essentially a basic pattern that is designed to fit you perfectly. You then use this sloper to make adjustments and customize that pattern into any of the garments pictured in the supplement booklets below. The supplement booklets have detailed diagrams that show you how to do this.

We also have a full-sized paper Haslam Dresscutting Chart reproduction. This chart is required to draft any of the 1940's - 1950's Haslam sewing patterns from the Haslam Dresscutting Books.

The paper chart comes with the front and back printed on one sheet of paper.

All you will need to do is cut the chart front and back out, glue them to a stiff piece of poster board, and then cut it out.
